Ventnor Bowling Club is required, like all sports clubs, to be in compliance with the law regarding the safety and wellbeing of children and vulnerable adults whilst on club premises and whilst travelling to and from away games. In addition to all legal requirements, the Club Policy operates within the guidelines of the Bowls Development Agency and the National Governing Bodies of Bowls in England.
The Club’s Safeguarding Policy 2013 is displayed on the club noticeboard and a Safeguarding Officer has been appointed, who will ensure compliance of the requirements of that Policy. Club members who are likely to, REGULARLY, come into contact with children and/or vulnerable adults, such as those who run our beginners evenings, have been vetted by the Disclosure and Barring Service. (which used to be known as CRB checks)
The Safeguarding Policy is also available from the Club Secretary.
To sum up, the main points of this Policy where changes are now required to previous practices are:
- The appointment of a Safeguarding Officer to ensure compliance and to support members, young members & children and vulnerable adults.
- To ensure that all club members who coach under 18's and/or vulnerable adults have been vetted under the Disclosure and Barring Service (used to be known as CRB checks)
- To ensure that all members under 18 have submitted medical records and emergency contact numbers, and have parental support for travel arrangements that are provided by other members.
Is is unlikely that there will be any other action that needs to be taken, other than those listed above.
The committee call on all members for their support in the successful implementation of this policy.
